Dialysis, What’s That? part 2
From 1997
When life and days are smoothly clicking along like the seconds on a old coo-coo clock it’s easy to ignore problems and irritating pains & unusual issues. Of course I can easily look the other way, why deal with a problem if I don’t need to? If I were to count the big mistakes I’ve made, which I refuse to do, I probably would become too centered on the wrong things.
What I count as a big mistake is under the health label of not doing something when I know I need to. Simple to avoid until it’s broke! In fact I often use that as a personal Moto, don’t go to the docs until it’s broke or squirting blood. Bad Moto, not something anyone should ever do!
So now here in 1997, seeing my Nephrologist regularly and feeling as if he’s a friend of ours, very nice to have a good doctor who really cares. He actually has laid out a plan for when and how long until I need this treatment called dialysis and sent us off with a pile of info regarding dialysis and what it was.. Evidently I have a year or so until then, very cool for Renee and I and we both took the info in and planned on life as usual. Keep the woodworking business going, horses, pigs, dogs, cats, water skiing and all the fun can continue! WOW, we were in la-la land for the hopeful!
3 months after the doc made the plan I became sick, real sick out of nowhere. Maybe because I don’t want to be in the fight agin and ignored my feelings or it just happened but nonetheless this is the situation I hate!
Renee got me into the doctors and as as fast as he saw me Renee and I saw the world change, at least our world anyway. I was now into serious kidney failure and off to emergency surgery. Time for immediate dialysis which we hadn’t a clue of what that meant. One would think we would had read the info about kidney failure and dialysis, yea right. Again I use my defense of it wasn’t broke, yet, and no visible blood.
I have to admit, being rushed into St.Charles hospital in Bend Oregon was not planned and kinda scary!
