It’s A War

Life and life abundantly, as a person battling for life this can seem nonexistent, it’s a struggle to enjoy the fullness of days. Rather it’s diabetes, heart issues, cancer or any of the hundreds of other diseases, it’s a war, a very all consuming war! The lines between sickness and life are blurred, all one does is want to feel better and live an actual life, but it is more than that, far more!

For myself the diabetes diagnosis was big, but I wasn’t shaken enough to take it serious. I figured it was no big deal, I was so wrong. After a few years of this disease I began to slowly learn. I learned there is a simple blood test named A1C. This test shows what our blood sugar level has been over the last 2-3 months. My first response to this was, “bummer, no hiding how poor my care of high sugar level has been”! My doctor would ask how I was doing controlling my levels I found myself looking like a deer in headlights! Truthfully in the beginning there was little control. He would tell me I needed to have a blood sugar around 110 to 140, that made me laugh! I said I feel better at 140 to 160 which usually meant I was around 160 -180, living the lie or dying at the lack of control, their both the same.

Now after over 30 years of this I look back and at those A1C levels that were around 12 and now I am at 6.8, fighting hard works! Or better said “eating responsibly & carefully with consistent sugar level checks is so important! I have learned to use insulin to keep me In good control and I have found my daily eating & exercising patterns with what amount of insulin needed.

It is possible to have a good life while a diabetic, it takes work and a fair amount of time but we are worth it. Our feet & fingers are precious and we like having kidneys functioning instead of being on dialysis. Having eyesight is kinda important one would think? Our heart too was designed to function for the average persons lifespan so why not care for it in fact let’s work to keep it all.

If diabetes has its way, our body will fail, piece by piece organ by organ. This is not a mere scare tactic, it is proven truth.

Maybe, just maybe we can fight like there’s no tomorrow so we can have life & life abundantly…..
